James John Sroga, 81, of Beavercreek, OH, passed away on April 2, 2024, at Trinity Nursing Home.
Born on June 6, 1942, in Minneapolis, MN, James was the son of John and Mary Agnes Sroga. He grew up in Northeast Minneapolis and Coon Rapids, MN. He graduated from Anoka High School and went on to pursue higher education with a passion for learning. Jim was an eternal student, earning degrees from the University of Minnesota (undergraduate), the University of Colorado (masters), and completed coursework toward a doctorate at The Ohio State University (ABD).
Jim dedicated over 21 years of service to the Air Force, retiring with the rank of Major. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Jim embarked on a career as a physicist for the Mound Department of Energy in Ohio, retiring in 1998.
Outside of his professional pursuits, James had a variety of interests and hobbies. He had a profound love for reading, enjoyed watching old TV shows and movies, and found joy in dancing and spending time with his family. Jim is often remembered being the best cheerleader for his daughters as a band/guard dad and soccer coach. He was also 4th Degree Knights of Columbus as well as a prominent member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, where he found community and spiritual fulfillment.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Mary Downey Sroga, his daughters Anne Sroga and Julie Rios (Anthony), and his cherished grandchildren Adeline and Connor Rios. He is also survived by his sisters Judy (Rudy), Jackie (Cory), and brother Jeff.
Jim will be remembered for his intellect, kindness, and devotion to his family and country. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held on April 11 at St. Luke's Catholic Church at 10:30 am. Visitation will proceed this at the church starting at 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent DePaul or Crossroads Hospice.
