James W. Smith

James W. "Smitty" Smith, age 70 of Huber Heights, passed away October 5, 2018. He was born June 6, 1948 in Victoria, TX. He was preceded in death by his mother, Symiria Franklin; and sisters: Dorothy "Dottie" Johnson and Ella "Ree" Johnson.

Smitty is survived by his wife of 25 years, Phyllis Smith; children: Tammy Smith, Teresa Smith, Tamika Smith, James Smith, Patricia Hawes, Carla Johnson and Robert Folley; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings: Ida Poole, Joyce Marshall, Chester Jackson, Larry (Maxine) Smith, Fred Redd and Ronald (Cheryl) Franklin; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Smitty retired from the U.S. Air Force, after 23 years of service. He served in Operation Desert Shield / Storm and received several awards during his time in the Air Force, including: Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one Bronze, Good Conduct Medal with one Silver and one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, as well as many others.
