James Simmons

James E. Simmons, 79, of Kettering, Ohio passed away on November 27,2015 after a brief illness. Born November 19, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of Daniel L. Simmons and Florence (Noble) Lykins. James was a former United Stated Army Serviceman who served his country during the Korean War in the 1950's. After his enlistment, Jim began a trade of his passion which was carpentry, where he became a Master Carpenter and retired. Jim was also an active member of the American Legion Local Post #598. His passions were building and creating things, hunting and fishing, and conversations. Jim was known for his smile and his gift to "gab". He never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by Charles and Anna Noble (grandparents) of Ironton, Ohio, Daniel L. Simmons (father), Florence (Noble) Lykins (mother), Bill Simmons (brother), Judy Steinbergie (sister), Carolyn Patton (sister), Pauline Lykins (sister), Linnie Mae Simmons (daughter), Timothy Jason Simmons (son), and Reba Ann Keith (granddaughter).

He is survived by Vernon Simmons (son) of Chillicothe, Ohio, Constance Sue (daughter) and Andy Bowling of Middletown, Ohio, Judy Ann (daughter) and Vincent "Feller" Whicker, of Hamilton, Ohio, and Christy Lynn (daughter) and Fred Fields, of Cape Coral, Florida; 13 grandchildren: Keyia, Jason, Cody, Sarah, Kara, Brandon, Nancy, Ashley, Amber, Mikey, Jeffery "Tyler", Michael, and Brittany, as well as many great-grandchildren (two of which he nicknamed Squeaky and Moe); John "J.D." (Vicky) Lykins (brother), Connie Lee (John) Skovrch (sister), Donna (Thomas) Yankovich (sister), and Jerry Lykins (brother); special friends, Roy and Lanelle Carl, Rhonda Knight, Ralph and Emily Dobson; companion, Harley "Boy" Simmons, and many other nieces, nephews, and friends.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday December 9, 2015 at 10:00a.m. at Dayton National Cemetery Pavilion, 4400 W. 3rd St. Dayton, Ohio 45428.
