James "Jim" Eugene Sauerland Sr. age 78, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023 after lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. Jim was born on June 3, 1945 inDayton Ohio to Dorothy and William Sauerland.
Along with his parents Jim is proceeded in death by brothers Charles, William, John and Michael, and sisters Mary, Dorothy and Barbara.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Carolyn. He is also survived by his son James Jr (Maria), daughter Emma and grandchildren, Catherine, Zachary and Callen. Jim is also survived by his sister Liz Faulkner.
Retiring after 20 years as a professional installer of carpet and flooring, Jim went on to work at Hara Arena. While there he served for several years as the beloved Zamboni driver for the former Dayton Bombers ECHL Hockey team. After leaving Hara Arena Jim went on to a second career at Meijer where he retired in 2007.
Jim was an avid stock car racing enthusiast, not only did he love the thrill and excitement of the sport but he also enjoyed building and repairing race cars. Jim also loved fishing, especially for shark, in the waters off the Charlotte Harbor in Port Charlotte Fl. He also enjoyed a variety of other hobbies, including motorcycles and fishing.
Family and friends were the center of Jim's life. His love and caring for his family and those close to him is evident in the many memories of his selfless gestures, teasing sense of humor and quiet guidance. He will be greatly missed by all those that had the pleasure of knowing and loving him. May his soul rest in peace.
The family will hold a memorial service to celebrate Jim's life in the spring of 2024. Details will be announced closer to the date.
