James Edward Peebles Sr., age 83, of Dayton, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Hospice of Dayton. Born April 12, 1933 he was the third of eleven children born to John Henry and Rosella Parham Peebles. He attended Dayton Public Schools, served in the Ohio National Guards and retired from Hertz Rent A Car of Dayton. Preceded in death by his parents, John H. Peebles Sr., and Rosella Parham Peebles; daughters: Janice and Janelle Peebles; brothers: John H. Peebles Jr., Bill A. Peebles and Michael Lynn Peebles; sisters: Henrietta White and Juliann Brookshire. James married Phyllis Ann Peebles (deceased) and to this union seven children were born.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: James E. Peebles Jr. (Patricia), David Peebles (Dorothy), Donna Wilborn (Elgrace), Phillip Peebles (Ron), Kathy Peebles, Jane Blevins and Joseph Peebles; five sisters: Melestine Harrison (Richard), Allene Connors, Betty Goolsby, Vivian Howell (Bob) and Sharon Foster (Albert); eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; four great-great- grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, friends and a faithful Health Aide, Shautan Jones.
James loved all kinds of sports and collected memorabilia from them all! His favorite football teams were the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State; baseball team, the LA Dodgers. He was also an excellent bowler and had trophies to prove it. James was the handiest of handy men who could lay out a linoleum floor! He could do all kinds of repair work, was very meticulous and clean and he won awards for the best kept home at the DeSota Bass Courts.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, where the funeral service will be held at 11 am. Burial to follow at West Memory Gardens.
