James L. Payne

James L. Payne, age 89, of Union, passed away February 1, 2023. He was born November 28, 1933 in Bridgeport, Alabama to the late Lawrence and Nancy Payne. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn Payne; son, Larry Payne; and brother, Jerry Payne.

Jim is survived by his sons: Terry Payne (Jennifer) and Chris Payne (Tamra); grandchildren: Alex Payne (Katlyn) and April Payne; and sisters-in-law: Linda Lee and Sarah Pierce.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Chrysler and Apex Machine Tool. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Covenant Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Covenant Baptist Church, 3424 Old Salem Road, Dayton, where the funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm. Burial to follow at Shiloh Park Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Jim's memory to Covenant Baptist Church.
