James Howard Morgan, Sr., (aka. "Bama"), age 83, of New Paris, Ohio, passed away on July 24, 2024, at Cypress Pointe Health Campus in Englewood, Ohio.
James was born on July 27, 1940, in Mobile, Alabama, to the late Oliver J. Morgan and Lena Marguerite Redman Morgan. He served 5 years in the United States Air Force. James worked as a journeyman electrician with IBEW Local 82 and as an Electrical Supervisor for the City of Dayton Schools Maintenance Department. James was a member of Bethel Christian Assembly of God in Dayton, Ohio, and additionally worshipped at Covenant of Peace Church in Eaton, Ohio. He loved to travel with his wife, visiting much of Europe during his time in the Air Force and all 49 contiguous states throughout his life. He loved spending quality time with family, experiencing the outdoors and maintaining lifelong friendships. He devoted his time and talents to the American Legion Honor Guard honoring fellow veterans and as a Commander for the Royal Rangers, nurturing and mentoring young men’s lives, giving them a love for nature and the outdoors, and a love for God.
James is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia Morgan; his sister, Barbara Jean; two sons - James (Barbie) Morgan Jr., and Charles (Melissa) Morgan; grandchildren - Joshua (Lauren), Chip (Kelsie), Katelynn (Nate), Seth (Amanda), Tyler, Alexis, Savannah, EmmaGrace, and Jacob; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Ann; his parents; brother Jerry D. Morgan; and sisters - Myra Stewart, Elizabeth McDuffie, Betty Ilene Al-Azzeh, and Carolyn Williamson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 10th, 2024, at Bethel Christian Assembly of God; 860 Grange Hall Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45430. The family will host a visitation from 9:00am-11:00am, with funeral services starting at 11:00am, and concluding graveside at Mount Zion Shoup Cemetery, Beavercreek, Ohio 45440.
James will be remembered for his storytelling, steadfast faith, loyalty to family and friends, quick-wit, and his contagious laugh.
