James C. Mitchell, Jr., age 70 of Huber Heights, passed away January 18, 2021. He was born December 8, 1950 in Philadelphia, PA to the late James C. and Jennie Krier Mitchell. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Bill DeBock.
Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 37 years, Valerie DeBock Mitchell; children: Jennifer (Dan) Baizel, Colin (Jessi), Alex (Andrea) and Liz; grandchildren: A.J Evans, Lexi Mitchell, Jimmie Mitchell and Daniel Baizel; brothers: John-David Mitchell and Jason Mitchell of Pennsylvania; mother-in-law, Marie DeBock; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jim graduated from Abington High School in 1969 then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served in the Vietnam War, the Cold War and Desert Storm as a Helicopter Crew Chief, Aeromedical Evacuation Technician, and Medic. Jim retired from the Air Force in 1992 as a MSgt. After his retirement in the Air Force, Jim became a Licensed Social Worker and Teacher.
Jim was active in Boy Scouts where he achieved Eagle Scout rank, and continued as a scout leader through adulthood. He was a Civil Air Patrol Cadet and Senior Member, where he met Valerie. Jim was active in the V.F.W. Huber Heights Post 3283 and St. Peter Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 6161 Chambersburg Road, Huber Heights. Father Ambrose Dobrozsi, Celebrant.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private burial with military honors will be held for the family at Dayton National Cemetery.
Contributions may be made in Jim's memory to the Boy Scouts of America - Miami Valley Council, St. Peter Parish Food Pantry, Para Rescue Foundation.org, Civil Air Patrol or a charity of your choice.
