James M. Peterson Sr.

James "Mike" M. Peterson Sr., age 80, of Yellow Springs, Ohio passed away peacefully June 17, 2020. He was born August 18, 1939 in Cedarville, Ohio to the late Marion and Lucille Peterson.
Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Mike was an avid horseman. He was a successful professional harness racer for 40 plus years along with his brother. They started the Yellow Springs Riding Center with Louise Solberg in 1960, where he taught riding lessons. Mike as a basketball enthusiast, coached Bryan's peewee basketball team which became the only team in Yellow Springs history that went to The State, Bryan's senior year.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his great grandson, James Michael Peterson IV; sister, Mary Ellen, Janette, Doris, and Ruth; and brother, Robert J.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty Peterson; children, James Michael (Angela) Peterson Jr., Lisa (Samuel) Lucas, and Bryan Scott Peterson; grandchildren, Michael, Jason (Katie), Brandon (Tori), Scott, Todd (Ashley), Erika (Chris), Samuel, Alicia, Deja', and Yanna (Ryan); 21 great grandchildren and counting; siblings, Frances, Russell, and Evelyn; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 26, 2020 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton -Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio). Funeral Service will begin at 2:00pm at the funeral home.
