James L. Martin

James L. Martin, age 86 of New Carlisle, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born November 10, 1932 in Harlan, Kentucky, son of the late Mellie Martin.

Along with his mother, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley A. Martin; and siblings, Freeman, Hazel and Freddie.

James is survived by his sister, Evelyn Haywood; children, Debbie (Tom) Mastin, Diane (Mike) Hunley, Lee (Patty) Martin, Denise (Jim) Lansdale, Doug (Jill) Martin; honorary son, Greg Roth, Sr.; thirteen grandchildren, Lisa Mastin, Tom Mastin, Nick Mastin, Greg Martin, Shawn Martin, Stefanie Martin, Amanda Dahlinghaus, Danielle Conley, Melissa Adams, Greg Roth, Jr., Chad Roth, Drew Martin, Shane Martin; honorary grandchild, Chelsea Brooks; fifteen great grandchildren, Jordan, Matthew, Bailee, Brooke, Bre, Cameron, Carson, Alexis, Caden, Kenzie, Kaylie, Cole, Mason, Kinley, Sawyer; three great-great grandchildren, Kelsie, Erin, Renee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

James is a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. He also retired from General Motors after 33 years. He enjoyed cooking, riding his Spyder, working on lawnmowers and counting leaves under the tree.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - North Chapel (4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45424). Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 10:30 am, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens where he will be laid to rest with his wife.
