James Martin Leonard, age 70 of Dayton, OH passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. He was born March 18, 1951 in Dayton, Ohio to Damon and Christine (Hall) Leonard. Jim married Jackie McGarvey on January 7, 1979 in Beavercreek, OH.
Jim graduated from Beavercreek High School in 1969 where he played varsity football. He loved hot rod and car racing at Kil Kare and built a couple of round track cars. Jim was an architect, graduating in 1972 from ITT technical school, and designed several buildings in the Dayton area. His dogs, Cheyenne and Noelle, were his "kids" and companions throughout life. Jim enjoyed hanging out with his hot rod buddies at the local cruise-ins, taking his 1941 Ford to the show. He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed by all.
James is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jackie; a brother, Charles (Shirlene) Leonard; a sister, Beverly Kirk; a father-in-law, Jack McGarvey; his faithful companion, Cheyenne; and numerous family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary Leonard; and brother in laws, John Molina and John McGarvey.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. Memorial Services will follow the gathering at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
