James "Jim" Appel, age 88, of Medway, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
Jim was born in Akron, Ohio on December 8, 1935 to the late Carl & Annie (Ruston) Appel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his, sons, David Appel and William Appel; brothers, Art Appel and Tom Appel; sister-in-law, Judy Appel; great-great-granddaughter, Robynn Arnold; and the mother of his children, Patricia Appel.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Jacqueline S. Appel; children, Carol Ann Sutter, Jackie Sue Talkington and Johnny (Joann) Appel; daughter-in-law, Corrine Appel; grandchildren, James (Elizabeth) Appel, David (Katie) Grootegoed, Devin (Joe) Ambrose, Molly Parker, Jeremy (Jennifer) Talkington, Travis (Lindsey) Talkington, Tasha Appel, Kim Humphry, Lauren (Evan) Chase, Amanda (Josh Rose) Appel, Kara Appel, Brittnie Stevens, and Christopher (Gillian) Appel; great-grandchildren, Gioia Ambrose, Olivia Talkington, Isabelle Talkington, Lyia Talkington, Braxton Chase, Owen Klein Smith, Evan Klein Smith, Mason Klein Smith, Kenlynn (Bobby) Arnold, Kylee Dixon, Lily Appel, and Madilynn Appel; great-great-grandson, Noah Arnold; nieces, Laurie (Allen) Appel Linger, Nancy Ann (John) Appel Sroka, Pam (Eddie Hansen) Appel Rumer and Diane Salyer; and nephew, Tommy (Gerard) Appel.
Through his marriage with Jackie he gained honorary children, Deborah (Jeffory) Nickell, Denise Colton and Danielle Larson; honorary grandchildren, Lindsey Hapner, Jeremy (Sarah) Nickell, Jacob (Lauren) Nickell, Jessica (Mark) Campagna, Mikayla Ashburn and Megan Ashburn; honorary great-grandchildren, Kendall, Lincoln, Jadon, Savannah, Noah and Nora; Lifelong friends Joyce & Fred Schnider; and many friends, co-workers and acquaintances.
Jim and Jackie met in a donut shop leading to 30 wonderful years of marriage. They enjoyed their second home at Kamp A Lot in Bellefontaine, Ohio where both families would join in many happy times.
Jim proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years travelling all over the world-including serving in the Vietnam War.
After retiring from the Air Force, Jim worked for TAC Transportation selling school bus parts for 38 years, which was owned by his dear friends Stephanie and her late husband Darrel Olinger. He considered Carolyn Clark his work daughter.
Jim was a member of the Eagles, VFW and Amvets.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A gathering will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 12-1pm at the Crossroad Baptist Church, 9903 W. National Rd, New Carlisle, OH 45344. A celebration of life will begin at 1pm.
A luncheon will follow immediately.
Jim will be laid to rest at Dayton National Cemetery at a later date.
