Passed away on March 27, 2012. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Judith R. Garvey (Smart), parents, Francis and Helen (Goebel) Garvey, son-in-law, Michael White and several other family members. He is survived by Teri and Kent McGuire, Jim Garvey, Patty and Paul Lacy and Kathy and Phil Lacy. Grandchildren Jessica and Mark, Andrea and Justin, Dustin and Mallory, Ashley and Michael. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren, Shauna, Mackenzie, Cheyenne, Chris, Mya, Alex, Makayla, Chelsey, Courtney and Mariah. Special friends Joan and Dennis Allen. Jim was retired from the Dayton Daily News / Journal Herald after 40 years of employment. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio). Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012, 11:00 AM at Newcomer with burial at Valley View Memorial Gardens (170 North Valley Road). In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
