James D. "Jim" Gill, age 88 of South Vienna, OH, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019 at Springfield Regional Medical Center. James was born on May 2, 1931 in Springfield, OH to Elmer and May (Ashcraft) Gill. He married Julia "Judy" Cooley on March 25, 1961 in Columbus, OH.
Jim worked as a machinist for Chemineer, retiring in 1996 after 23 years. He was a longtime collector of antique Opel cars and loved to work on them, still having some in his collection. Jim liked NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt was his favorite driver. He enjoyed bowling and bowled in the Springfield Moose bowling leagues. Jim loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed by all.
Jim is survived by his three daughters, Pammy (Glen) Miller, Kimberly (Mark) Howard and Gwendolyn (Bill) Raines; a son, J. Troy (Rena) Gill; four grandchildren, Tabatha (Matt) Baugh, Amanda (Jake) Biermann, James (Bre) Miller and Kelly Rice; 12 great grandchildren; as well as many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Judy; a daughter, Tammy Gill; and his parents.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, OH 45432. Family and friends will visit prior to the service from 2-3:00 pm at the funeral home.
