James Elliott

May 24, 1922 — February 20, 2014

Elliott, James Herbert "Jim," 91, of Kettering, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 20, 2014. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ginny (Gordon) Elliott; infant daughter, Lynn Anne; parents, Richard and Adelia (Fisher) Elliott; brothers, Thomas Elliott and Bill (Verna) Elliott; and sisters, Patty (George) Neargarder and Helen Louise (Ray) Schaub.

He is survived by his brothers, Deane (Phyllis) Elliott, Joe (Marlene) Elliott, and Jack (Rita) Elliott; daughters, Diane (Roy) Carman and Chris Curtis; grandchildren, Steve (Shannon) Carman, Eric (Bridget) Carman, Shane (Leslie) Howard, Carrie (Kent) Clary, Jamie (Jason) George, Jason Carman, and Keith (Tari) Curtis Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Skyler, Rebecca, Kyle, Ian, Mallory, Taylor, Tommy, Kellan, Jocelynn, and Krista.

Jim was born on May 24, 1922 in Wapakoneta, OH. After high school, he served as an Army medic in the Pacific Theater during World War 2. After the war, he moved to Dayton where he earned a B. S. degree in Accounting at the University of Dayton. He met the love of his life, Ginny, in Dayton and they were married on October 20, 1951. He later earned a Masters in Business at Xavier University in Cincinnati going to night school.

Over the years, Jim worked at Specialty Papers and later Tire and Battery Corporation in Dayton. In 1974, Tire and Battery moved to Memphis, Tennessee, so he and Ginny followed his career there. After retirement, Jim and Ginny moved back to Dayton to be closer to family.

Jim was a devoted family man who enjoyed sharing his love of stamp/coin collecting and UD Women's Basketball with his family. A devout Catholic, Jim volunteered as a Eucharistic minister in his parish church. His family could count on him to lead prayer before meals and to sing heartily at Mass. The jiggling of coins in his pocket. The tapping of fingers on a table. Speed walking. These are just a few of the memories his family will hold dear to them as Jim reunites with Ginny in Heaven.

Family will receive friends at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45432, on Monday, February 24, from 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial is on Tuesday, February 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension, 2025 Woodman Dr, Dayton, OH 45420.
