James H. Davis, affectionately known as "Jim" or "Fatman," passed away surrounded by family on February 8, 2025, at the age of 82, in his birthplace of Dayton. Born on June 29, 1942, Jim lived a life characterized by generosity, kindness, and a robust sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.
Jim received his education at Fairmont High School before embarking on a commendable career with the Kettering City Schools buildings and grounds department from which he later retired.
A proud member of the United States Marine Corps, Jim’s military service was a testament to his character and commitment to his nation. After returning home, he continued to embody the values instilled in him during his service throughout his life.
In his leisure time, Jim engaged in a variety of hobbies that reflected his vibrant personality. He thoroughly enjoyed playing corn hole and cards, often spending time at the casino. An adventurous spirit at heart, he loved camping trips where he would humorous tales of wanting to find Bigfoot. Fishing brought him peace, and his passion for music was evident in his enjoyment of playing the banjo.
Jim's proudest accomplishment was the quality time he spent with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Helen Davis; two children, James G. (Heather) Davis and Jennifer (Shawn) Clayton; and seven grandchildren, Allison (AJ) Davis, Vincent Klosterman, Alexis (David) Ottney, Matthew Klosterman, Allison Clayton, Zachary Mistler, and Jacob Mistler. He also leaves behind his sister, Patricia Davis.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James R. Davis and Pauline Sharritts, as well as his brother, Robert Davis.
His legacy of love, laughter, and warmth will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends, who were blessed to share in his life.
