James R. Cole, a cherished member of his family and community, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on April 29, 1942, James lived a life defined by love, hard work, and generosity.
After dedicating 35 years to General Motors, where he earned respect and admiration from his colleagues, James retired but never stopped being involved in the lives of those around him. His service in the United States Army was a source of pride, contributing to a deep sense of duty and respect that he carried throughout his life.
Known for his incredible kindness and generous spirit, James touched the lives of countless individuals. Friends and family alike could always count on his unwavering support and guidance. He often imparted wisdom with the words: "Whatever you want in life, you have to work hard for. Nothing is ever free." These lessons reflected his belief in the value of hard work and perseverance.
His passion for the outdoors was well-known, particularly his love for fishing at St. Mary's, a spot that held many cherished memories. In his younger years, James was also an avid bowler, showcasing his competitive spirit and enjoyment of friendly recreation.
James is survived by his beloved children, Robert Eldridge (Rachel) and Melissa Lunsford (Charles), who carry forward his legacy of kindness. He was a proud grandfather to Ashley Lunsford, Charles (Aimee) Lunsford, Christine Eldridge, Taylor Eldridge, Alexis Eldridge, Curtis Cress, and Myrtle Noble. The joy of his life also extended to his great-grandchildren, Ashton, Mackenzy, Jaley, Madison, Christopher, Charlie, Denver, Diamond, Cassidy, and Bell, who were the light of his days.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara A. Cole, who was his partner in life and love. James is also preceded by his parents, Samuel and Mary Cole, as well as by his brother, Samuel Cole, and sister, Patsy Reddivai. Their memories will forever be carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
