James E. Claypool Sr.

James E. Claypool Sr., age 87 of Xenia, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022. He was born April 25, 1934 in Plumbers-Landing, Kentucky, the son of the late Henry and Nellie Claypool.

James proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired as a Master Sergeant; serving in Germany, Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He was a master parachutist with 103 jumps as a member of the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles). He also retired as a civilian from Trinity Industries Inc in Mt. Orab building and inspecting railroad cars.

James was a self taught master woodworker; making everything from candle holders to furniture. He was always up for tackling a challenge and encouraging others to do the unthinkable. He had a gift of remembering everything and was always sharp as a tack. He was a jack of many trades and always worked hard to support his family. Though he was a man of many accomplishments, he always put his family first and everyone he met was family to him.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Claypool; brothers, Billy, Charles & Wilbert Claypool; sisters, Ethel Rice, Leola Wagner, Ruby Hardyman & Joyce Becraft.

James is survived by his two sons, James (Rita) Claypool Jr. & William Claypool; grandchildren, Amanda, Dustin, Travis, Jordan, Kendal, Adam, Trae, Karen, Crystal, Grant, Lindsey & Eli; several great grandchildren; siblings, Wanda Griffith & Carl Claypool and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, February 11, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with a service at 1:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). James will be laid to rest at Valley View Memorial Gardens following the service.
