James Chapman

James (Jim) Preston Chapman, a wonderful and honorable man, went to be with the Lord on August 20,2015. Among those who will miss Jim terribly are his family: wife, Anna; daughters, Judy, Selma and Rise; son, Ronnie; son-in-law, John; daughters-in-law, Joan and Linda; brothers, Edward and John Wayne; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces; as well as, Scott and many friends. He is preceded in death by son, Tony, and daughter, Linda, and son-in-law, Kenny.

Jim was born in Kingsport, TN, served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Pope, and lived most of his life in Dayton, OH where he raised his children and watched his family grow. He retired from Woolpert Engineering after a long career of surveying much of the land in and around Dayton. He attended Faith Christian Fellowship in Beavercreek. Like any good country boy he found great happiness in the simple things of life: fishing, growing a garden, winning at checkers, playing a prank, or just talking with a friend.
In his final days, Jim was blessed to be in the loving care of Hospice of Dayton and VA Hospice - Lakeside Manor.

He and his family are so appreciative of the care we all received. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 PM Sunday, August 23 and Final Goodbyes will be said at 10 AM, Monday, August 24 in the chapel of Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd. in Dayton. Jim will be laid to rest in the earth he loved at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following.
