James T. Burns, age 72, of Tipp City, Ohio, passed away on August 14, 2023. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, on August 14, 1951 to the late Robert and Reba Burns. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his siblings: Robert, Michael, and Joyce; father & mother-in-law, Arthur and Alvera Wehrkamp; sister-in-laws, Shirley Burns, Kathy Wehrkamp, and Marge Dilworth; and brother-in-laws, Bill Wehrkamp, Roger Siefring, and Kevin Dilworth.
Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Burns; children: Keri (Mitchell) Covert and Bradley (Heather) Burns; grandchildren: Kerigan, Landry, and Lukas; bonus grandson, Ricky; sister-in-law, Helene Burns; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Steve Rosengarten, Carol Siefring and Jim Sheppard, Don and Beck Wehrkamp, Linda and Mel Nieport, Mary Wehrkamp and Jim Evers; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many other family and friends.
Jim was a 1970 graduate of Bellbrook High School and a graduate of Sinclair College. He retired as a toolmaker from General Motors.
Jim loved sports when he was younger. He'd play any sport that had a ball. Jim also enjoyed trapshooting and bass fishing, both of which he did for fun and competitively. He enjoyed coaching youth baseball and soccer. He especially enjoyed attending and being a part of any event in his children and grandchildren's lives.
In his memory, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or Crossroads Hospice of Dayton.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 10:30am to 12:00pm at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. A memorial service will begin at 12:00pm, followed by a time of fellowship and lunch at TJ Chumps, Huber Heights. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
Jim will be laid to rest at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
