James W. "City Jim" Burnette, age 86 of Huber Heights, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017. He was born July 11, 1931 in Loris, South Carolina to the late James and Luella Burnette.
Jim retired from the City of Dayton after 32 years. His hobby was work and he could always find plenty for others as well. He loved taking vacations back down South, especially to Myrtle Beach. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jerome R. Burnette; brother, Eldred Burnette and sister, Helen Scearce.
Jim will be missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Katy Burnette; five sons, James R. (Tracey) Burnette, Joseph R. (Jana) Burnette, Jeffrey R. (Christina) Burnette, Joel R. Burnette, Jason R. (Michelle) Burnette; daughter, Janette R. (Jerry) Brandt; 8 grandchildren, Amber Neal, Jenna Burnette, Joshua R. Burnette, Rebecca Dillon, Jacob Brandt, Jonah Burnette, Emily Burnette and Alex Burnette; 5 great grandchildren, Gabrielle Dillon, Dustin Dillon, Liam Neal, Jagger R. Burnette and Miles Neal; sister, Sharon Robinson; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Family will receive friends Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4101 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio, Pastor Hollie J. Vanhoose, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Willow View Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of Dayton in Jim's memory.
