James W. "Jim" Blazer, age 71, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024, in Dayton, Ohio. He was born on September 10,1952, in Corona, Alabama, Jim's life journey was marked by dedication and a steadfast commitment to his work and family.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Jim served during the Vietnam Era, demonstrating profound courage and service to his country. After his military service, he began a long and successful career in the building materials industry, working as a production manager for Harry's Building Materials, alongside several other companies throughout Ohio. His professionalism and hard work did not go unnoticed, earning him multiple accolades including Employee of the Quarter from Georgia Pacific.
Jim was an alumnus of Baker High School in Fairborn, Ohio, and went on to further his education at Raymond Walters College in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jim was known to be a man of few words, but when he spoke, his insights were valued and respected by those around him.
In his leisure time, Jim enjoyed engaging in hobbies that brought him joy, such as playing poker, card games, and woodworking. These interests were outlets where he found relaxation and fulfillment, often shared with friends and family.
He is survived by his beloved partner, Ina Blazer; son, Jerry Blazer (Aimee); and a cherished lineage of grandchildren: Brody Adkins, Destiny Blazer, James Alan Adkins, Paige Wills, Austin Fortune (Jessica), Ashleigh Jackson (Kayne) and Zoe Fortune. His great-grandchildren, Logan, Dawson, Savanah, and Emilie, were also a source of immense pride. Jim is remembered fondly by his brothers, Ray Blazer and Joe Blazer (Linda), and his best friend, Jerry Doolin (Carol). He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, James Grounds (Connie) and Phillip Grounds (Debbie), sisters-in-law, Arlene Grounds and Sarah Christian (Mike), along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Jim was predeceased by his parents: George and Maxcell; step-daughter, Patricia Wills; brother, Jimmy Burke; sister, Margie Blazer; and brothers-in-law, Homer Grounds and Billy Grounds. His legacy, defined by love, friendship, and unwavering support for his family, will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Jim's gentle spirit and quiet strength will be deeply missed as we remember a life well-lived.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 West Third Street.
