James B. Cash

James B. Cash died on Saturday, May 22, 2010. He was born on August 20, 1935 in Chicago, son of schoolteachers. He grew up in industrialized northwestern Indiana and attended DePauw University. While at DePauw, he studied at St. Andrews in Scotland for his junior year. Returning home and graduating, he married Nancy (Neely) in New Albany, Indiana. The couple raised four children James Aaron, Diana Lennon, Stephanie and Jennifer Konetzny. In his career, he worked mostly as a contracting officer for NIH in Bethesda, Maryland and as an Executive for two private companies involved in clinical trials in Baltimore. While working for NIH he was chosen for a sabbatical program at Colorado State University. In his government career, he traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia. He retired from the government and private industry, moving to Kettering, Ohio to become a writer. In retirement, he wrote three diverse books and several articles. Additionally, he became a speaker/moderator for the Ohio Humanities Council Speakers Bureau, traveling extensively throughout Ohio delivering presentations on his books. Also was a speaker/moderator for the University of Dayton OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute. Jim loved being a part of the Kettering and Dayton communities, which he thought had many things to offer culturally. He thought music, the arts and sciences could help facilitate world peace. He is survived by wife and children, his grandchildren: Matthew, Austin, and Cameron Cash, Mackenzie and Savannah Lennon, Blake and Olivia Konetzny. He is also survived by his sister, Ellen Gignilliat of Chicago, IL, and several nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of life reception for family and friends at Cox Arboretum, 6733 Springboro Pike, Miami Township, Ohio 45449, on Saturday, June 5, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Fifth Third Conference Center.
