James "Jim" Ronald Alspaugh, 73, of Beavercreek, Ohio, passed away Thursday July 4, 2024, at Wood Glen Alzheimer's Community. He was born December 30, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Clifton and Dorothy (Wheeler) Alspaugh.
Jim served his county in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for Duff Truck Lines while completing college, then worked for the Wright State University Medical School. He also held various positions at the Wright State Bookstore and was the manager of Whittenburg University Bookstore. He was a member of St. Jacob Lutheran Church in Miamisburg, Ohio. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family camping, vacationing in Florida, going to NASCAR events and attending concerts.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, MaryAnn (nee Abney) Alspaugh; one son Douglas (Lisa) Alspaugh; one daughter Jessica (Jeremy) Nevels; two sisters Kathi Boggs and Cheryl Biggers; two sister-in-laws Linda Alspaugh and Lee Ann Kurtz; one brother Terry Alspaugh and two grandchildren Sophie Alspaugh and Noah Nevels. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth Alspaugh and sister Karen Pletcher.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at 5:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton Xenia Rd) on Thursday August 1, 2024 with a memorial service immediately following at 7:00 pm with Pastor Michael Hout Officiating. He will be laid to rest with family at Hillgrove Cemetery during a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Jim's memory to The Wounded Warrior Project or the Alzheimer's Association.
