Jack S. Schaeffer, a beloved member of the Dayton, Ohio community, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, following an 11-year battle with cancer. Born on September 15, 1950, Jack was a life-long resident of Dayton, where he spent his formative years and built a legacy of friendship and camaraderie.
Jack was a graduate of Northridge High School, Class of 1969, who went on to pursue a successful career. He retired from Tennant Corporation after many fulfilling years of service and had previously been employed at Rikes and Miami Industrial Trucks. His professional life was marked by dedication and a strong work ethic, which he carried into all aspects of his life.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Jack was known for his friendly demeanor and ability to engage anyone in conversation. He possessed a good sense of humor that endeared him to many, cultivating a wide circle of friends who will miss his warmth and generosity of spirit.
Among his many interests, Jack held a particular passion for HAM radios, proudly serving as a member of the Dayton Amateur Radio Association. He also enjoyed hunting and sailing, activities that brought him joy and allowed him to connect with nature and the outdoors.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Diane, who stood by him through all of life’s challenges. He leaves behind a son, Stephen (Yumiko) Schaeffer, and a granddaughter, Stephanie Schaeffer, who will cherish the memories they created together. He is also survived by his siblings: Janet (Bill) Charles, Thomas (Bev) Schaeffer, Teresa (Randy) Burchacki, Shirley (Greg) Potts, and Roger (Martha) Schaeffer, along with a sister-in-law, Debbie Wenclewicz. In addition to his immediate family, he is remembered fondly by many other relatives and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Georgene Schaeffer.
His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched with his friendship and laughter. Jack S. Schaeffer will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who remember him not just for his resilience but for his generous spirit and the joy he brought to their lives.
Family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2025 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Joe Getts to officiate.
