Jack L. VanDegrift, age 80, of Dayton, passed away Monday Nov. 11, 2013 at Patriot Ridge Community in Fairborn. He was born June 19, 1933.
Jack was proceeded in death by his son Paul VanDegrift and his brothers, Jim and Bill VanDegrift.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Maryellen (Madascy) VanDegrift, sons Stephen and David (his wife Debbie), daughter Donna Clendening, brother Ralph Thomas (his wife Alice) of Florida, 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack served in the Ohio National Guard, was a member of the Greater Dayton Umpires Assn., active in the sports programs at Our Lady of Rosary, Corpus Christi, and St. Helen parishes. He was active in St. Vincent DePaul Society, serving as President of the St. Helen Conference and Dayton District Council. He participated in the creation of The Dayton Job Center and St. Vincent Hotel.
Jack loved wearing his red suit and black boots in the latter days of December, bringing many smiles to everyone at The St. Vincent Hotel and House of Bread.
