Isabelle Yvonne Bradley was born on March 10, 1938 to Iola and Bartow Wooden in Marianna, Florida. She was one of 9 children and their youngest daughter. After high school she set her sights on nursing and received her nursing degree from Florida A & M. There she was to meet her first husband James Harlan, Sr. and from this union there would be 4 children. Being an Air Force wife, she moved several times including to San Bernadino, CA and Wichita, Kansas before settling in Dayton, Ohio. She divorced and later married Alfred N. Bradley and they would remain together for over 30 years until his death in 2017.
Isabelle loved nursing and would spend the majority of her career as a school nurse in the Dayton School District for close to 40 years. She would touch many lives through her work and would often buy meals and clothing for those in need.
Isabelle attended church throughout her life and was baptized into the Church of Christ while living in Kansas in the mid 1960's. She faithfully attended until she was no longer able to do so and rarely missed a service. She loved listening and studying the word of God and singing the hymns. She tended to linger at the end of services to fellowship with her brothers and sisters in Christ and very much enjoyed continuing her fellowship over a meal.
Education was of the utmost importance to Isabelle and she worked and sacrificed to help her children advance. She was very proud of the fact that three of her children completed medical school and one completed law school. She could always be heard encouraging others to complete their degrees or to go back to school. She went back to school herself and was awarded a Masters Degree. Even as her health was declining, she would still opine about going back to school for a doctorate degree.
Isabelle loved to socialize and was quick to strike up a conversation with anyone around. In her later years, she would spend hours meeting and talking to people old and young at McDonald's as she enjoyed her favorite cup of coffee.
On December 4, 2020, Isabelle made her transition and was called home. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred Bradley, parents, Iola and Bartow Wooden, 7 brothers, Aaron, Major, Bartow, Albert, James, Melvin, and Joe as well as her only sister Nanny Ruth. Left to remember her are her children James, Wayarne, Richard, and Carmen; her grandchildren Shannon, Jessica, Viktoria, Zara, and Zachary as well as a host of family and friends. She will be fondly remembered for her generosity and love of learning. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
