Irving "Punch" Tidwell, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at his home in Dayton, Ohio, on October 9, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on March 12, 1953, in Dayton, he was a man of many talents and a heart of gold, often referred to as a jack of all trades.
A dedicated carpenter, machinist, and mechanic, Punch was known for his exceptional skills and his willingness to help those in need. He could often be found lending a hand to friends and neighbors, whether it was fixing a car or sharing advice on gardening or fishing. His kindness extended to everyone who crossed his path; there was always an open door and a warm welcome at his home where many would stop by for a chat, a laugh, or some much-needed assistance.
Punch lived a life marked by perseverance and faith. He was a pioneer type who cherished the simple pleasures in life, even maintaining a wood-burning stove that symbolized his commitment to a self-sufficient lifestyle. Though he faced his share of struggles, he found solace in his faith and worked hard to instill the same values in his children. Punch was tough as nails, he embraced every moment, often showcasing his humorous side, brightening the hearts of those around him with laughter and warmth.
He is survived by his children, Billy (Cindy) Tidwell, Butch (Cristina) Dixon, Gail (Chris) Yount, Sarah Collinsworth, and Jelena Tidwell; his grandchildren, Billy, CJ, Tyler, Jacob, Daniele, Seth, Kinsley, Kiya, Evan, Emma, and David; as well as his sisters, Janet Tincher, Connie Tidwell, and Marsha Tidwell, and his brother, Ronald Watson.
Punch was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Tidwell; mother, Vondle Watson; wife, Jewels Tidwell; brothers, Marvin Ray Tidwell and Gary Tidwell; and sisters, Sandy Watson and Vicki Jo Tidwell.
The family will receive friends on October 18, 2024, from 4 PM to 6 PM, with a funeral service beginning at 6 PM, at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton, located at 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424.
Irving "Punch" Tidwell leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and community, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
