Irene Mathis

Irene G. Mathis, age 91 of Miami Township, OH passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Kettering Medical Center. She was born September 12, 1928 in Gainesboro, Tennessee to Virgil and Anna (Smith) Gibbons. Irene married Carlos Mathis on December 5, 1948 in Chattanooga, TN.
Irene enjoyed being with family and loved to watch RFD TV. She was a member of First Church of God of Moraine and enjoyed going to church with her husband Carlos. Irene stayed in touch with family by calling them regularly and loved her family and friends, she will be greatly missed by all.
Irene is survived by her husband of 70 years Carlos; two daughters, Pam (Bruce) Kennard and Tamie (Ernie) Clark; a son, Tim (Tina) Mathis; six grandchildren, Alison (Josh) Duncan, Matthew (Brittney) Kennard, Kimberly (Jon) Kresge, Travis Kennard, Jill (Kory) Caldwell, and Carlos Mathis; eight great grandchildren, Heidi , Kruiz, Landon, Keilei, Savannah, Blake, Eli and Quinn; a brother, Bruce Gibbons; a sister, Betty (John) Dunn; and other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers Luther "Harlan", Luke, Eddie and Buddy Gibbons; two sisters, Gladys Dailey and Beatrice Gibbons.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Centerville, 820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45459. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 USA / donors@stjude.org.
