Irene E. Day, passed away on June 6, 2017, at St. Leonard Living Care Center, Centerville, Ohio. Irene was born to Donald A. & Matilda S. Haines, in Shelby, Ohio, on July 21, 1936.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James and Albert Haines; and daughter, Debra A. Day.
Irene is survived by her loving husband, Leo E. Day currently residing at St. Leonard in Centerville; daughters, Terri (Walt) Fitzharris, of Washington Township, Beverly A. Day, of Dayton, Mindy (Paul) Fasolo, of Bellevue, Washington; and beloved granddaughter, Ali Fitzharris.
A longtime resident of Fairborn, Ohio, Irene was employed by the Fairborn City Schools as a classroom aide and cafeteria worker. Outside her love for her family, Irene was passionate about sewing, crafting, reading (Mary Higgins Clark), baking and traveling. She and her husband, Leo, traveled extensively in their RV, as members of the Good Sam and Scotty Travel Trailer Clubs. Irene and Leo celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on Memorial Day Weekend.
Irene will be remembered for her sense of humor, bright smile, compassion for others, and her devotion to children.
Irene's family is grateful and thankful for the compassionate caregivers and nursing staff at St. Leonard and the Hospice of Dayton. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospice of Dayton would be appreciated in Irene's memory.
There will be no formal funeral service, but an upcoming memorial service will be held at St. Leonard.
