Hugh V. Stanze, age 92, of Kettering, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 16, 2010.
Hugh was born January 9, 1918 in Dayton, to the late David and Alpha Stanze. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Stanze.
Hugh is survived by his wife of 59 years, Iola Stanze (Hoke); daughters, Priscilla (Dan) Acuff and Marty (John) Piatt; step-grandchildren, Nathan Acuff, David, Diane, and Dan Piatt; and many other relatives and friends.
He graduated from Stivers High School in 1936. Hugh served in the U.S. Army throughout Europe during WWII. He worked at NCR, owned and operated Stanze Sales and Service Company, and retired from Montgomery County Water Department. Hugh was an active member of Fairhaven Church. He loved to sing, especially at church where he sang in choirs for 60 years. Hugh played the trumpet in the Kettering Civic Band. He was a 32nd Degree Mason F&AM Dayton Lodge #147 and Scottish Rite AASR Valley of Dayton. Hugh always had an upbeat attitude with a humorous spin. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 1-3pm at Fairhaven Church (637 E. Whipp Rd, Centerville, OH 45459). The service will follow at 3:00pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home South Chapel.
