Howard Ray Smith, age 82 of Dayton, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton after many years with Alzheimer's. He was born April 18, 1936 in Gainesboro, Tennessee to the late Gale and Decie Smith.
Howard Ray served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Coca Cola for ten years prior to becoming employed at General Motors from which he retired after many years. He liked to be outdoors enjoying nature by riding his bike, walking, horse-back riding, fishing and boating. He enjoyed attending church, spending time with his family and friends and vacationing back to Cookeville, TN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Smith; brothers, Roy Smith and Kenneth Smith; sisters, Opal Purvis, Dimple Mayberry and Fern Rose.
Howard will be missed by his loving daughter, Lisa Slaughter; granddaughters, Ciera Slaughter and Alexa Slaughter; great grandson, Cameron Ray'Neal Walker, Jr.; brother, Bob (Pauline) Smith; sister, Charlene (Poley) Smith; two step-children; many step-grandchildren; step-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews including Jimmy (Helen) Smith; friends and extended family.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. at Newcomer Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio. Burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery.
