Howard Darrell Purvis, age 73 of Dayton, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born June 18, 1944 in Eastman, Georgia to the late HL and Reba Purvis.
Howard retired from the Wright Patt AFB after over 30 years. His life-long passion was umpiring all levels of baseball which he continued for all of his adult life. Upon retirement, he spent several years at the Fairborn YMCA. He was one of the most friendly men you'd ever meet and he never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Purvis.
Howard will be missed by his loving children, James D. (Ginny) Purvis, Janet B. (Bart) Schwieterman and Jeffrey D. (Deanna) Purvis; grandchildren, Tory Purvis, Alex Purvis, Chris Schwieterman, T.J. (Emily) Schwieterman, Andrew Schwieterman and Colette Mueller; step-children, Laurie (Burnett) Brown, Kevin (Vicki) Burnett, Scott (Laura) Burnett, Brian Burnett and Kyle (Jill) Burnett; daughter-in-law, Barb (Reichel) Burnett; step-grandchildren, Heather Brown (Scott Adams), Brittney Burnett, Carly Burnett, Kaitlyn (Lucas) Hampton, Aaron (Autumn) Brown, Cory Burnett, Austin Burnett, Brandon Burnett; great grandchildren, Payton and Paisley Brown and Maddox Hampton; sister, Sandra (Tommy) Griffin and a niece, Denise Wynn.
Family will receive friends for a gathering and sharing of memories Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45424.
