Houbert J. Raines, Sr., age 59 of Dayton, passed away January 21, 2021. He was born December 5, 1961 in Dayton, Ohio to the late William Clyde and Fleta Bell Raines. In addition to his parents, Houbert was preceded in death by his sister, Sheila Hicks; brothers: William "Big Bo" Raines, Billy Thomas, Tim Ray and Tommy Raines; and special in-laws: Walter and Edith North.
Houbert is survived by his wife of nearly 34 years, Sally Raines; children: Houbert Raines, Jr. (Jessica), Valerie Jones (Bobby), Savannah Raines (Eli) and Roxanne; grandchildren: Tayven, Charles, Alyiah, Jackson, Mia Bell and Lexi Jo; brother, Gary Raines (Marlene); special uncle, Campbell Reimer; nephews: Chopper, Shelby, Billy, Tommy Gunn and Kenny Nelson; nieces: Jessica, Amy, Brandy, Cathy and Kelly; many great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
Houbert dedicated his life to his family and friends. He was a well known member of the OND Community, volunteered his time to numerous neighborhood organizations, such as the local food pantry, Project Christmas Smiles, coaching T-Ball, Little League, and anywhere else he could help out. Houbert was an ordained minister and performed several marriages and funerals. He was an avid artist and loved music. Houbert loved the Lord, and was the spiritual leader of his family.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 pm on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, where the funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm. Houbert's family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff on the 3rd floor SICU at Grandview Hospital for their loving care.
