Horace G. Davis, affectionately known as "JR," passed away in Dayton, OH, on November 22, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on January 25, 1953, in Dayton, he lived a life filled with laughter, hard work, and love, touching the lives of all who knew him.
JR dedicated more than 30 years of his career to Bell Vault and Monument, where he became known for his meticulous recordkeeping and his extraordinary skills as a mechanic. He possessed a rare talent to fix nearly anything, earning him the reputation of a miracle worker in the eyes of family and friends. His perfectionism and can-do attitude were matched only by his vibrant personality—he had a wonderful sense of humor and was beloved for his ornery yet fun-loving spirit.
He graduated from Trotwood Madison High School, where he surely began to showcase his strong character and the formidable bonds he would form throughout his life. JR's interests were as vast as his talents; he had a deep appreciation for collecting lighthouses and cherished evenings spent watching ME TV, with a special fondness for "Gunsmoke."
JR is survived by his loving wife of three decades, Linda Potts-Davis; his daughter, Vicki (Jim) Heinrich; and his bonus son, Rick Napier. He took great pride in his grandchildren, Alex (Grace) and Andy Heinrich, celebrating every milestone with them. JR also leaves behind two sisters, Beverly Branom and Becki Saylor, along with a host of nieces and nephews, who will carry forward the warmth of his legacy.
He is predeceased by his parents, Horace Sr. and Mildred Davis, five siblings—Nancy (Billy Joe) Prather, Lee (Jerry) Pease, Barbara Davis, Shirley Gilbert, and Lex Davis, two brothers-in-law, John Branom and Jack Saylor. He also remembered fondly his nephew, Johnny Liffick.
His family will invite friends and loved ones to gather in remembrance of JR. Visitation will be held on December 8, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. Both services will take place at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Kettering, OH.
JR lived his life with a hard exterior but, to those who knew him well, he was undeniably a mushy-hearted caregiver, always extending his hands and heart to those in need. His legacy will be cherished in the memories of laughter, love, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
