Herb Motsch
Age 73, lost his battle with cancer Wednesday, June 14th after a long and strenuous fight at James Cancer Hospital at Ohio State University. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on February 20, 1933.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Cookie, his parents Veronica and Nicholas, siblings Nicholas Motsch, Theresa Bochenek, and Eva Benoit, and his step-son Jeff Brown.
He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 17 years, Mary, daughters and sons-in-law Marie and Jim Martin, Linda and Steve Mercuri, and Cathy and Randy Troop, sister Kay Gephart, a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, grandchildren Jessica Martin, Jake and Sam Mercuri, Chad and Matt Troop, Elissa Trout, K.C. Brown and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by more dear friends than can be listed here, who all meant the world to him. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by them all, as everyone who knew him, loved him.
He was an avid golfer and dart thrower and ran leagues for both sports. Herb was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 619, V.F.W. Post 657, and Am-Vets Post 24. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was retired from Furst the Florist, though many families still remember him as Herb the Milkman from his early days with Borden Dairy.
The family will be receiving friends on Monday, June 19 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday. Interment will follow at the Dayton National Cemetery.
