Helge G. Buflod

BUFLOD, Helge G., passed away on September 28, 2011 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Mr. Buflod was born on July 28, 1931 in Trysil, Norway. He was the only child of Einar and Gudrun Buflod. His youth was spent in Trysil where he enjoyed skiing, dog sledding and travel.

In his mid-twenties he ventured out to the United States, settling in Dayton, Ohio. He was a quiet and hard-working man who cared deeply for his family. He was the manager of the meat department at Dorothy Lane Market for more than forty years. He took great pride in his work and accomplishments there.

Mr. Buflod is survived by his five children and their spouses: Helge and Holly Buflod, Sonya and Randy Brewer, Hans and Kathy Buflod, Ingrid and Thomas Mallets and Ingeborg and John Manes. His twenty-one grandchildren: Hannah, Houston, Holt (Buflod), Jessica (Brewer), Shannon, Derrick, Bryan, Kyle (Buflod), Jonathon, Christopher, Elizabeth, Anna, Nathaniel, William, Joshua, Sarah, Benjamen (Mallets), Grace-Ann, Kelsey, Emmalee, Caralynn (Manes) and great-grandchild Hailee (Mallets). He also leaves behind many family and friends in Norway. Special thanks to his good friend, Jane Craig, who helped care for him his last few years.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Shoup Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home.
