Sparks, Helena C., age 83, of Fairborn, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at her home. She was born August 14, 1925, the daughter of Donald E. & Elizabeth (Goodpaster) Webb. Helena worked in a factory making shells for the military in East Chicago, IL during WWII and later moved to Ohio where she worked for WPAFB. She was also formerly employed as an activities therapist for the Greene County Home and was honored with Dayton's Top 10 Women Award for her work there. She was also affectionately known as the "Goose Lady" on Linden Ave. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elzie Sparks; brothers, Charles Webb & Homer Webb; and her sister, Anita Downs. Survivors include her sons, Vanzel R. Sparks, Sr. & Marcel J. Sparks; daughter, Marsha Sparks; grandchildren, Vanzel Sparks, Jr, Shannon Sparks, Lena Sloan, Andrew Cox, Amy Perkins, Jeremy Sparks, Eli Elzie Sparks, Julius Eason, Casey Eason, Marshana Eason, Steven Moreland, & Shameika Moreland; and 16 great grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Byron Cemetery, Fairborn.
