Harry L. Wiley, Jr., age 78 of Dayton, entered into eternal rest Monday, October 23, 2017 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born September 15, 1939 in Columbus, Ohio, the eldest of two, to the late Harry Sr. and Mona (Hedges) Wiley.
Harry served a total of six years in the U.S. Army. The first tour in the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg where he earned a Parachutist Badge and Expert Rifle M-1. The second tour was as an intelligence analyst with the 532nd Military Intelligence Division in Bad Kreuznach, Germany during the Cuban Buildup. He was honorably discharged in 1963.
After the Army, he sought law enforcement as a life time career. A true public servant. He spent 2 years with The Ohio State University Police Department, also, as an Ohio State Investigator. Traveling the state, he met his beloved wife, Sandra Kay Cox and was married on October 16, 1966. He joined the Dayton Police Department in 1967, serving as a detective in the early 1980's. He loved the communities in which he served, especially the people. After retiring, he went back to work as a Montgomery County Bailiff, until the Judge he served retired.
Upon his second retirement, Harry was able to enjoy his favorite past times of skydiving, paragliding, RVing, attending auction sales and studying history (past and present).
He was a member of the Maynard Avenue United Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio and attended Brandt United Methodist Church in Brandt, Ohio.
Harry loved his family. He would light up when he talked about his kids and grandkids. He also enjoyed his many nephews, nieces and cousins. He especially loved the yearly family reunions. Harry will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara A. Adkins.
Harry will be missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra Wiley; son, Harry L. Wiley, III; daughter, Angela Rae (Joseph) Sarasin; three grandchildren, Joshua Sarasin, Michael Sarasin and Sophia Sarasin; aunt, Norma Walker; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family will receive friends Sunday, October 29, 2017 from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton. Private burial with full military honors will be held at Dayton National Cemetery.
