Harry A. Meredith

July 13, 1942 — April 14, 2023

Harry Meredith, 80, formerly of Beavercreek passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Harry was born July 13, 1942 in McKeesport, PA, the oldest child of Jim & Kitty Meredith. Had his parents known of his future shenanigans he undoubtably would have been an only child. He graduated from McKeesport Technical High School in 1960 before heading off to the University of Dayton where he had way more fun then he should have as evidenced by his less than stellar GPA. On the first day of his sophomore year he met the love of his life Michaeleen when she asked him for directions to her first college class. After class she found him waiting for her, and the rest was history. They were married for 56 years before Mike, as she was known, passed away. They were blessed with two daughters, Lisa and Amy.

After a family emergency necessitated a call for an ambulance, Harry decided the best way to express his thanks was to join forces with them. Thus began his 24 years of community service with the Beavercreek Fire Department. Harry became one of the first paramedics in Greene County, and for several years was the lone paramedic in Beavercreek at night. Despite being busy working full time at NCR and volunteering on the fire department he always made time to coach Lisa and Amy's multiple sports teams. He simply loved spending time with his girls and teaching them and their teammates. Mike and Harry relocated back to his beloved Pittsburgh when he accepted the director position with Robinson Emergency Medical Service. He served his community there for 17 years before retiring in 2010. Harry devoted his life to caring for others and saved many lives in his 41 years of service to his communities. Retirement brought Harry and Mike back to Beavercreek to be closer to their four granddaughters, Andi & Olivia Shick, and Audrey & Sloane Green, whom he simply adored.

Harry was the biggest kid on the planet, always ready to have some fun, and more likely than not, instigate some trouble. He loved "rolley coasters", "ESBN", "fajitos" and of course Jet Freeze. He never met a stranger and always had stories to tell to anyone who would listen. He excelled as a mentor, passing on his knowledge to fledgling paramedics. He was a rabid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, who not only attended all their home games once he returned to the Steel City, but also attended their last two Super Bowl victories. In his later years he loved every minute he got to spend with his family and loved nothing more than making his granddaughters laugh. He was blessed to have a very special brotherhood with Alex Zaharieff, Jason Kinley, Aaron Zimmaro, Ken LeMaster and Cathy Kroger. He spent most Tuesday afternoons with them eating lunch and retelling stories from his glory days, some of which may or may not have been true.

Harry is survived by his sister, Sally (Frank) Danowski; brother, Jim (Bridget) Meredith; sister in law, Sharyn Meredith; daughters, Lisa (Steve) Shick and Amy (Chris) Green; his four beloved granddaughters, Andi and Olivia Shick and Audrey and Sloane Green and several nieces and nephews. We all miss him terribly.
