Harry L. Long Jr., of West Carrollton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on February 28, 1938, he was a cherished member of his community and is remembered fondly for his kind spirit and infectious humor.
Harry was a proud graduate of Springfield High School, where he laid the foundation for a life marked by dedication and service. He served in the Army National Guard, famously en route to the Bay of Pigs invasion when orders were unexpectedly canceled. This experience shaped his character and exemplified the patriotism that would remain a central part of his identity.
In 1995, Harry retired from a successful career at the Sears Roebuck Company, having devoted many years to the organization. His professional life was marked by a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence, characteristics that were mirrored in his personal endeavors.
Beyond his career, Harry had a profound love for fishing and painting. He often found peace and joy on the water or at his easel, turning canvases into vibrant expressions of life and emotion. His artwork brought delight to many and was proudly displayed at local craft shows, showcasing his talent and creativity. Harry also had a passion for community theatre, where he engaged with others in the shared joy of performance.
Family was of utmost importance to Harry. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Patricia, and their four children: Lance (Amanda) Long, Amber (Russell) Sparkman, Adam Long, and Ashley Johns. He was a doting grandfather to Justin (Samantha) Sparkman, Jarrett (Kaitlyn) Sparkman, James (Shelby) Long, Anna Long, Jackson Johns, and Nicholas Johns. Additionally, he was a proud great-grandfather to Haiden Sparkman, Beckham Long, and Maddix Long.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Frances (Kelly) Long Sr. His legacy will forever be cherished by those who knew him, a testament to a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. His impact and the warmth of his spirit will continue to be felt by family and friends for years to come.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd. Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Joe Getts to officiate.
