PACKER, Harry J., 91, of Dayton, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 21, 2008. Born October 13, 1917 in Denver, Colorado to Ella and Curtis J. Packer. Preceded in death by wife, Viola (von Greyerz) Packer and brother, Kyle Packer. Survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Carol of Indianapolis, Indiana and Reed and Elizabeth (Lies) of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Gary Jr. and Joe of Indianapolis and Eric and Karina of Anchorage; sisters-in-law, Toni Packer of Dansville, New York, Mary Lou Frick of Dayton, Ohio, Doris von Greyerz of Boynton Beach, Florida, and Harriet von Greyerz of Stockholm, Sweden, and many nieces and nephews. Harry was a 1935 honor graduate of South High School in Denver, Colorado. Harry received his BS degree in Chemical Engineering from The University of Denver in 1938, followed by a Master of Science degree in 1939. He was inducted into Phi Lambda Upsilon that same year. Later on, he received a Masters of Business Administration Degree from the University of Dayton. Harry was a commissioned officer in the Air Force during World War II where he ended up being stationed at Wright Patterson. Harry was an active member of the YMCA Outdoor Club in the 1940's where he met his wife and made many close, life-long friends. Harry was a member of First Lutheran Church and participated in many church activities. Harry volunteered with Boy Scouting activities with Troup 32 during the 1960's. He was also a volunteer usher for thirty years at Memorial Hall. Harry was a member emeritus of the American Chemical Society for over 50 years. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 29, 2008 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering. Pastor Gary Eichhorn officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the time of service. Entombment will be at David's Cemetery.
