Ellen Hunter, age 101, of Centerville, Ohio, passed away on May 29, 2023, at Bethany Village. Ellen, also known as Harriet Ellen Braithwaite Hunter, was born on March 28, 1922, in Dayton, Ohio. She graduated from Stivers High School in 1940.
Ellen was a Red Cross volunteer and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Dayton Chapter. She enjoyed being of service, especially through her church, where she was a lifetime member of Memorial Presbyterian Church until it closed, and then became a member of Corinth Presbyterian Church.
An avid reader, Ellen enjoyed reading novels of all genres. She was also an accomplished craftsperson who created intricate cross-stitch artwork that looked like paintings.
Ellen is survived by her children: Don W. Hunter III, Barbara A. Zeh (Donald), William J. Hunter (Karen), Deborah J. Scarlett (Alex), and Donna J. Jenkins. She is also survived by a niece, Carol Sue LaRue of St. Louis, MO, 11 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, William G. and Harriet E. (Cyester) Braithwaite; sister Elaine Lesher; and niece Nancy Szilagyi. Also preceding her in death was her beloved husband of 61 years, Lt. Col. Don W. Hunter, Jr, Retired USAF.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm, on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Corinth Presbyterian Church, 4281 Corinth Boulevard, Dayton, Ohio, led by Rev. Cynthia Holder Rich.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Corinth Presbyterian Church.
