Harold Gass

March 8, 1938 — September 11, 2016

Harold Lee Gass, 78, of Washington C.H. passed away on September 11 after a prolonged illness. He was born in Hillsboro, Ohio on March 8, 1938 to Bessie and Homer Gass. He is survived by many friends and a loving family: Peggy, his wife of 57 years, his sister, Gale(Erick) Young, three sons: Karl; John (Kim), and Mark (Carla), six grandchildren: Brandi Davis (Nathan), Chelsea, Emily, Walker, Evan and Eryn Gass; and two great grandchildren: Hayden and Noah. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Roy Gass.

Harold was a graduate of the University of Arizona with a Master's of Science in Invertebrate Paleontology. He served the Miami Trace High School community as an earth science teacher and Science Club advisor for twenty-eight years. During this time he personally touched and inspired many students with his curiosity, love and enthusiasm for science.

Following retirement, Harold continued to pursue interests in paleontology, astronomy, and photography, He is best known for his humor, love of learning, and kindness --a legacy that lives on many whom he touched.

A memorial service will be held at Fort Hill State Park in the picnic area near the Visitor's Center on Saturday, September 17 at 2:00 PM, Rev. Tom Payton presiding.
