Melton, Harlen E. "Gene" passed away November 20, 2018 at home with his family.
He was born May 11, 1938 in Monticello, KY to the late Shelby Marvin and Laura Betty (Ferguson) Melton.
Gene was a proud veteran of the United States Army and a member of VFW Post 9684.
He was a devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
Gene had so much love to give and welcomed his friends as members of his family. He truly radiated a Christ-like hospitality to all he met. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 ½ years Nancy (Pittl) Melton; children John (Rebecca) Lewis of Dayton, Jamey Melton of Kettering and Joshua (Stephanie) Lewis of Beavercreek; grandchildren Lani, Joshua Tanner, Zane, Paxton, Chloe, Colten, Trevor and Addison.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dayton VA in Harlen "Gene" Melton's name. The Dayton VA went above and beyond serving him during his time of need.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 10:30 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Dayton. A wake will follow the service at the family's home.
Interment with full military honors will take place at a later date at Dayton National Cemetery.
