His retirement did not last long as he went directly to work as a defense contractor with Battelle. He officially retired from all business in the mid 90's so that he could spend more quality time with his wife Mary, the love of his life. He was an avid fan of both, The Ohio State University Buckeyes and his beloved Cleveland Browns. Gust was very involved in the local community having coached youth football and baseball. He was a driving force in getting the Pee Wee football field at Community Park built and started the 7th grade Bantam Football program in Huber Heights. Gust was deeply involved in making Huber Heights a city and he was the first recipient of the Citizens Award in the City of Huber Heights. He was also one of the founders and charter members of the Huber Heights Athletic Foundation. Gust's biggest love of all was his HUGE family and he always cherished every moment with them.
