Gregory Peter Cordones, age 87 of Kettering, passed away Monday, June 11, 2018 at 1 Lincoln Park. He was born September 20, 1930 in Newark, New Jersey, son of the late Petros and Aphrodite (Vitkos) Cordones.
In addition to his parents, Greg is preceded in death by his brother, Victor Cordones
Gregory is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marian (Albion) Cordones; daughter, Marta Wright; sons, Gregory C. (Nell) Cordones, Robert Cordones; grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Hahn, Caroline (Adan) Davis, Sam Cordones, Amanda Wright and Alison Wright; great grandchildren, Nicholas and Bayleigh; sister-in-law, Barbara Cordones; niece and nephew, Kris Holland and Robert Cordones as well as other extended family members and friends.

Greg graduated from Central High School in 1949 and enlisted in the U.S. Army, honorably serving 2 years during the Korean War in France and Europe where he played baseball and basketball. Following his tour of duty, Greg was awarded an athletic scholarship from the Philadephia Phillies to Ithaca College, NY where he earned his degree in chemical engineering. He worked for Graphite Products as a Vice President of Sales for almost 35 years before retirement. Greg began his career in sales at Dixon Crucible Co. and finally became a professional consultant after retirement. He was a member of the American Society of Lubrication Engineers and in his earlier years officiated and coached youth basketball and football. Greg enjoyed tennis and reading about current and historic events as well as investment news. He was awarded recognition by the City of Newark as an inductee to their Hall of Fame for his years of playing baseball through high school, college, in the Army and for the Philadelphia Philles where an injury ended his career prematurely.
