Rodgers, Graydon F. "Grady", age 88, of Kettering, passed away March 30, 2018. He was born November 22, 1929 in VanWert, OH to the late Ferdinand and Gertrude (Ulrich) Rodgers. Graydon proudly served in the US Marine Corps. from October 1950 until 1953, earning Expert Marksman and Sharpshooter medals.
Grady married the love of his life, Wanda (Sumner) Rodgers on September 22, 1955. He retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Co. after many years of devoted service. After his retirement, Graydon and Wanda enjoyed several years living in Somerset, KY on Lake Cumberland. Upon the births of their grandchildren, they returned to Dayton to be full-time grandparents. During this time, he also worked at Walmart in the sporting goods department.
Grady enjoyed fishing and hunting especially with his grandsons. He also enjoyed collecting and shooting guns. Grady served as an Elder at Bethany Church of Christ in Kettering. He had a strong faith throughout his life. He was a soft spoken "Gentle Giant" with a loving heart and spent many hours passing that legacy to his grandchildren.
Grady is survived by 2 children, Jerry Scott, Lisa Rodgers Mix and husband, Jack; 6 grandchildren, Patricia Scott Smith, Shawn Scott, Zachary Mix, Nathanial Mix, Jacob Mix, Caleb Mix; 4 great-grandchildren, Riley, Emily, Issabel, and Senna, niece and nephew, Elaine and Mark, great-niece and great-nephew, Sarah and Brian.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Wanda in January 2018, and also by his brother, Gerald Rodgers.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., where service will follow at 1:30 pm. Burial at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton in Graydon's memory.
