BEGLEY, Glenn, age 88, of Fairborn, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born January 20, 1924 in Dryhill, KY, the son of Floyd and Belvie (Hoskins) Begley. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Amy (Baker) Begley; his parents; sisters, Thelma Woods, Eula Combs, Mearl Calhoun, and Jacqueline Baker, and brothers, Ollie and Luther Begley.
He is survived by his son, Danny (Libby) Begley of Beavercreek, OH; two daughters, Joyce Shickling of Rogersville, TN and Kimbely (Robert) Brown of Fairfield, OH; seven grandchildren, Myra (Chris) Lowder of California, Ryan (Heather) Begley of Jamestown, OH, Brocton (Amber) Begley of Fairborn, OH, Weston Begley of Beavercreek, OH, Justin, Sara, and Robbie Brown of Fairfield, OH; eight great grandchildren, Morgan, Clayton, and Cassidy Lowder, Samantha Swaney, Madeline Johnson, Boston and Gavin Begley, and Braden Begley. He is also survived by three sisters, Blanche Boyles, Rowena Walker, and Lilly Henry, as well as numerous friends and church family.
He was a member of The Church of Christ of 1946 Dorothy Avenue in Fairborn, OH. He was an evangelist for the Church of Christ. During his ministry, he did radio broadcasting for over forty years and a T.V. program out of Xenia and Fairborn, OH. He served during World War II with the Air Force. He was a flight engineer and machine gunner on B-24 bombers, flying out of Italy. He received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action, and four air medals, five major battle stars, European occupation medal, and a medal from the Greek Government for action over Greece, as well as a medal for flying submarine patrol over American waters. He was awarded a Victory medal, Presidential citation, and Marksman badge for rifle and machine gun. He was a T/Sgt and retired as Chief of Supply for Flight Dynamics Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, in 1974 after thirty years of service.
Visitation will be held in the meeting house at Fairborn Church of Christ, 1946 Dorothy Ave., on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm, with services following at 12:00 pm with Dana Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Byron Cemetery.
