Gladys M. Spencer, 95, of Dayton, OH, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on October 2, 2017. Gladys was born in Clearfield, Kentucky on April 2, 1922 to Henry and Leda (Gregory) Alfrey. She married Jesse Spencer on December 30, 1943 in Kentucky.
Gladys enjoyed word search puzzles, watching Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune and old time shows and movies. She was an avid card player, especially enjoying 500 rummy and loved to play bingo. She loved her grandchildren and family dearly, and will be greatly missed by all.
Gladys is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Charlie) Thompson and Donna R. Spencer; four grandchildren, Keith Thompson, Tina (Sammy) Leonard, Jessi (Josh Phipps) Sanders and Jenny Sanders; four great grandchildren, Pheonix and Kylan "Bubby" Sanders, Bella Leslie and Miranda Leonard; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jesse; two daughters, Rita Faye Spencer and Marcella Spencer-Settles; brothers Cletus Alfrey and Martin Klug, Jr.; and sisters, Grace Burris, Myrtle Young, Bernice Johnson and Norma Barrand.
A visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 pm on October 9, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory - North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd. Dayton, OH 45424, where services will begin at 1:30 pm with Pastor Steve Nichols and Pastor Todd Hoskins officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
